Last week's Foreign correspondent investigated obesity trends amongst earlier malnourished people. The podcast is still available on iview till about 20 Aug.
http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/977438

The broadcast indicated that, in several developing countries. the population is going from malnourishment to obesity within one generation -- and showed that people who are malnourished as babies are at greater than normal risk of obesity and attendant health problems if they shift to a junk food diet in their teens and twenties. The statistics for deaths from heart disease, diabetes etc among young people in these populations are alarming.

Is it more or less ethical for Western companies to engage in aggressive marketing of soft drink and junk food in developing countries than in their own countries?

'More or less ethical' sums it up -- unintentionally. It's a top cop out.

The podcast isn't available for download where I live.

Did it offer any verifiable evidence that the cause of obesity in these countries was the consumption of western diet junk foods.

The program made a strong link between the increase in snacking on newly available junk food and the health problems. Are you thinking there might be some other cause that was hidden for some reason?

I have a skeptical streak, and when it comes to the media, even more so. Some people are skeptical of religion as it requires faith. I am skeptical of the media for the same reason.
