Hello everybody, I'm currently doing an ethics assignment for college. I was wondering what people think of this dilemma. If there are any medical professionals or researchers I would love to hear your opinion.
You are a pharmacological researcher working in a lab. There is a virus rampaging across the globe, with an incredible fatality rate. Communications are sporadic, and it is very difficult to get lab supplies. If left unchecked, the virus has the potential to end the human civilization. As far as you know, you are the only lab working on a cure, and believe you may have a working vaccine, but animal tests have been inconclusive. You could test on yourself, but if you die then all hope will be lost. Another option is to test the vaccine on your seven-year-old son.
For the simplicity sake lets assume you are the only one working on the vaccine, and that left unchecked the virus will destroy humanity.
