isn't tolerated in some places:

Gay couple guilty of violating 'the order of nature'
8:20AM SMH, 19 May 2010.

A Malawi court on Tuesday convicted a gay couple who staged an illegal same-sex wedding of violating "the order of nature", which could land them with up to 14 years in prison.

Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza were arrested on December 28 following a symbolic wedding and have been in jail ever since.

Homosexuality is illegal in Malawi, as in most African countries . . .

They don't really need to know. However for homo sapiens it can be a different story as a very recent resignation from the Labor Party front bench in NSW shows.

I'm really not sure I see the point of the thread. In some places, witches are killed. In at least one place it illegal to be rude to a government official. In the U.S. it's illegal to lie to the police.

Not even the liberal justices on the U.S. Supreme Court want U.S. law to follow the laws in African countries.

The point is that it gives readers the chance to see that all is not rosy out in the wide, real world and that those who whine in Western countries that they are hard done by, by not being allowed to 'marry', really have nothing to complain about.

The lack of opportunity for same-sex couples to formalise their relationships, as do different-sex couples, sends the message that their relationships are not of equivalent standard and that they are second class citizens. As same-sex sexuality is no more a choice than heterosexuality, restricting marriage to different-sex couples will not stop committed relationships between members of the same sex.

This idea that one is born that way, so it is alright is a false argument, because we are all born the way we are, and we All want things that we CANNOT have. Society has evolved because we controlled our lower urges ,through controlling laws in the West, which allows us to access our higher mental and spiritual energies. Just in the same way as we have learned the laws of flight , engineering, and other laws which underly the workings of the universe, we learned in ancient societies that misbehaviour of a certain kind in sexual relations, brought about a downfall in human conditions to the point of total destruction.

So in Africa it is considered a 'crime',and also in Islam, because they can see the relationship between widely practised homosexuality [as it was] ,and promiscuity, and the decay of their communities over time.
Totally rational observation of the laws of human sexuality .

I disagree. Care to elaborate on why that is an invalid argument? Homosexuals are very much capable of controlling themselves. Also, I would argue that the civilzations you listed perceive a relationship, but I doubt they actually found any relationship between "widely practised homosexuality [as it was] ,and promiscuity, and the decay of their communities over time." Also, define "decay of their communities over time" and where you found out that there is a link between these.

Without stirring up a hornets nest, I find this question a non starter. Inflated by conservatives because they can not handle that they could be wrong in their ideas.

Let's keep in mind no one is putting forth a law making gay marriage mandatory. What they appear to be asking for is that they can make a formal and legal commitment. Why does this give everyone so much heart burn? In my opinion its a flap over nothing, we are not in danger of the gay rights activists becoming dominate in the world be reasonable we can as humans find enough to hate each other over. It appears this one community that social norm is allowing to be flogged, because all other forms of hate speak is being frowned on.
