Sometimes we f*#% up. Unintentionally, naively, arrogantly.
On May 22nd we explored the Ethics of F**king Up at Cake Wines Cellar Door in Redfern. A big thank you to Paul McDermott, Sam Dastyari and Mel Greig for taking the stage and sharing your stories. But especially to everyone who turned up to make the event a total sell out. We hope you enjoyed it.
Ethics is all about human behaviour and what’s right and wrong so we’re bringing together some people who royally messed up to share their personal stories with you. Were their errors avoidable? What thinking led to them? Was the fall out fair? How should we react?
We’re told we learn from our mistakes but overwhelming shame can destroy us before any smidgen of personal development begins.
Our colossal mess ups hurt the ones we love the most. They can tear up our sense of selves and end illustrious careers. Just one mistake can unravel a lifetime of good deeds. Is this right?
Current cultures of public shaming and mob justice do not really do forgiveness. If to err is human, we need to consider whether total annihilations of people’s lives, careers, and wellbeing are justified. Are there frameworks for when we accept apologies and recognise remorse?
We’re imperfect creatures, all bound to make at least a few mistakes, so come and explore The Ethics of F*#%ing Up with us.

Speakers
Sam Dastyari
From the dizzying heights of being an Australian Senator at aged 30, to spiralling lows five years later. Sam Dastyari has seen it all. In 2013, Sam was elected to the Australian Senate representing NSW as the youngest ever Senator from the Australian Labor Party. By 2018 it all came crashing down in an international Chinese donations scandal. He is easy to love, easier to hate; but impossible to ignore.
Mel Greig
Mel Greig is 37 year-old divorcee that refuses to settle for ‘Comfort’ and she’s on an adventure to re-ignite her passion. After 10 months into her dream role as the co-host of the Hot 30 Countdown, Mel was involved in the tragedy that is now known as the “Royal Prank Call” and it changed her life forever. Today Mel is a long-term Ambassador for Endometriosis Australia and the Founder of trollfreeday.com.au a National Day of Awareness against Cyber-Bullying.
Paul McDermott
Paul McDermott is a singer, performer, artist, comic, writer, TV host… so much more than a triple threat. He was a member of the Doug Anthony All Stars and frontman of Ten Network’s Good News Week. He and his stage mate have been performing their sold out musical show around Australia, Paul McDermott and GatseyGo Solo. Catch Paul doing a fresh set all about human frailty and our stupid penchant for screwing up.
